Welcome to Hollywood Hills

A private and stylish neighborhood perched above Los Angeles.

Perched amongst the winding roads and overlooking the city of Los Angeles sits the Hollywood Hills, or “The Hills,” as locals have nicknamed it. Few neighborhoods in California hold the glamor, prestige, or history of The Hills.

The Hills, as we know them today, began as a neighborhood development called Hollywoodland (which is what the Hollywood sign used to read!) in 1923. The Hollywood Hills developed into the home of movie stars and housed many of the Los Angeles musicians of the 1960s and 70s. Laurel Canyon in particular was heavily saturated with up-and-coming artists and singers such as Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Carole King, The Byrds, The Eagles, Neil Young, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork of The Monkees, and many more.

Nowadays, The Hills boasts some of the most exclusive and sought-after homes in Los Angeles county with unparalleled views and secluded properties. With a central location and world-class dining and shopping, it’s easy to see why locals fall in love with this neighborhood and never want to leave.

Schools

There are public schools in the Hollywood Hills area, though some families opt to go “over the hill” for private schools. Hollywood High School is a public school in the heart of the city with a strong performing arts program, while Immaculate Heart Middle and High Schools are private Catholic schools for girls grades 6-12. Friends of West Hollywood Elementary and Hollywood Elementary are two great public offerings in the area, while Hollywood Schoolhouse hosts kids from Pre-K to 6th grade.

Harvard-Westlake is the area’s premier private school for grades 7-12 and is just over the hill in Studio City — it’s considered the city’s most competitive college preparatory school.
